The Art of Negotiating with yourself

One valuable skillset I’ve learned personally and often teach in my therapy practice here in Charlotte, NC. is Self-Negotiation. The art of self-negotiation can empower us to face life’s challenges with grace and wisdom. Here’s a great example: I like to work out, it’s good for me, I always feel great afterward but some days I lack motivation, I’m tired or I’m busy. Part of negotiating with myself is starting with the question…What am I willing to do? Am I willing to walk for 5 minutes? Am I willing to jog for a mile? I start small and then re-assess after a short walk or jog I’ll ask my self if I’m willing to do more. By that time I’m feeling warm and more motivated to get moving and it turns into a good workout. Somedays a short walk is all I do.
