Tap through your Anxiety and Difficult Emotions

The demands of daily life can be stressful! Planning, shopping, family, kids, work, bills, it can all be a bit overwhelming, to say the least. I want to give you a practical tool you can use, right now, to help manage your stress. When anxiety and overwhelm rear their ugly heads you’ll be able to handle things like a pro!

I’ve taught many clients this technique and use on my own as well. I was first introduced to Tapping and Emotional Freedom Techniques in grad school by a guest speaker, nearly 20 years ago. During that time I was watching the College World Series and noticed a player tapping on his face. This was a player on Cal State Fullerton, a perennial contender in the college worlds series, so I paid attention! He was using the technique I had just learned in class! This wasn’t just a weird meditation, granola, yogi thing so it put me at ease knowing some dudes were using it too. (no offense yoga people, I love you!)

EFT works by tapping on nerve endings, its acupuncture like. As you tap on these areas on the body it helps release stored energy in our nervous system and brings you back into a state of calm. It’s kind of like taking out the emotional trash, once it gets filled it’s time to take it out. The trash tends to fill up a lot faster during holidays, so you may need to take it out more often. Along with some calming self-statements, it can bring a quick sense of relief having you feel less stress and a little lighter and brighter emotionally. If done regularly it can really help rewire our brains to feel calm as a baseline.

I’ve included a YouTube video walking you through a tapping session. It’s only 3 minutes, give it a try, its worth your time!
